A common fear we hear about dermaplaning is “my hair is going to grow back dark and thick”.

Let’s get sciencey for a sec, you have two types of hair on your body. Vellus hair (baby soft hair) and terminal hair (dark hair, like on your head, on your legs, etc). The hair on your face is vellus hair, some of us lucky ones have some random terminal hairs on our chin, or possibly lip but it’s mostly vellus hair. The fact is, when you Dermaplane your face it’s not possible that structure of the hair will change to terminal hair. You’ll typically get terminal hair due to hormone changes.

I always like to tell clients if a man shaves his head he won’t end up with 80’s rock star hair, right?

So dont stress or worry but rather enjoy the benefits of dermaplaning like removing dead skin, having better product absorption, and a brighter smoother complexion.
